Estonian state-owned energy giant Eesti Energia will conclude a common intentions agreement on oil shale energy with Morocco, meaning that the company gets the preferential rights to study oil shale reserves in Morocco in three years, LETA/National Broadcasting reports.

This will mean no spending for Eesti Energia since initially, Morocco intends to use Estonia’s experiences.

Currently preliminary studies are under way and it hasn’t been decided exactly how much either party would contribute to the project financially. If the research results are suitable, Eesti Energia wants to develop Moroccan oil shale resources and offer the Enefit oil shale production technology to the state.

Morocco has one of the largest oil shale deposits in the world.
